Every Child Deserves a Happy Birthday

Mission

Our mission is to make sure that one day all children in our community will be able to celebrate their birthday. It will be an uplifting experience for the parent(s), and for the children. It will make them feel special. It will boost their self-confidence.

How to Donate

Please make your check or money order payable to CHILD CELEBRATION INC and send it to P O BOX 3832, Long Beach CA 90803. Do not forget to mention your mailing address so that we can send you a receipt and keep you informed on the progress we make.

Action Plan

The CCI brings people together in an effort to alleviate child poverty. We provide the parent(s), in cooperation with the local Food Banks, a gift box full of age appropriate toys and party treats. The children (ages 4 to 12) will not be informed that it is actually a gift from the CCI.

Your donation of $ 35.00 will provide one child with a giftbox. If you donate $ 140.00 you will make 4 children happy. And $ 350.00 will take care of 10 happy birthdays. About us

Our Vision

We at CHILD CELEBRATION INC believe that every child deserves a happy birthday, but most children in poor families never celebrate their birthday, simply because there is not enough money or no money at all to fund a proper celebration.

On what should be one of the most beautiful days of our lives, the inability of poor children to have a nice birthday, can easily lead to depression and other self-destructive behaviors.

Privacy Policy

The CCI is committed to protecting personal information. Personal information that we collect will never be sold or shared with others.

Sometimes we share information with trusted service members and/or providers who are authorized to act on our behalf or who we work with in partnership. It is possible that we are requested to exchange personal information with other organizations for the
purpose of fraud and credit risk reduction. We will however always require strict compliance with our instructions and in the case of third party organizations require that personal information not to be used for personal purposes.

How We Use Information

The CCI collects information in many different ways. This includes information such as your name, date of birth and contact
information. We use this information to help us provide and improve our services as a Charity and to keep record of our communication. For example, if you are a Sponsor of CCI, we will ask for information that makes it possible for us to administer your donation. This includes your name, address, e/m, phone number and payment details.

We will only use personal information in a way and for a purpose that you would reasonably expect in accordance with this policy.

Our Ethics

We at CCI are committed to:

  • developing high performance standards
  • delivering services only of the highest quality to the children in need
  • giving priority to the health, safety and rights of the less privileged children
  • ensuring sustainability, making sure that we keep creating enough income
  • continuous in-depth self-evaluation
  • transparency by annual or bi-annual newsletters and making the annual report available to anybody interested.

How The CCI Started

After retiring from teaching sociology at LBCC, Cornelis volunteered at the Long Beach Rescue Mission. By serving food to less privileged adults and children, he firsthand learned about the severe impact that “deep poverty” and “being homeless” can have on the brain development of young children.

By doing research on the internet Cornelis found out about an initiative in Rotterdam (the Netherlands), where a group of volunteers started the nonprofit “Birthday Boy.”

They distribute every year thousands of gift boxes full of toys and party treats to young children in poor families.

He thought if they can help the poor like that in Europe, we should be able to start something similar in Long Beach as a modest contribution to the reduction of child poverty. The CCI came to life in the last quarter of 2021. The first gift boxes are going to be distributed in the spring of 2022.
